We are often asked the question: should I create a Group or a Page?
Groups
These are spaces for discussion where everyone can take part, with no single voice above the others, in other words a horizontal hierarchy. It is a more community-oriented or club-like approach, often centred on a topic of interest.
- One or several moderators/administrators;
- Open or closed group; as an administrator, you can add or remove members;
- As an administrator, you post under your own personal name;
- Members of a Group must go to the Group’s page to see the latest posts. The posts do not appear in their news feed. They receive a notification when there are new posts;
- You cannot add apps;
- No statistics;
- You can buy ads to promote your Group;
- It is not possible to create photo albums; all photos are grouped into a single album.
Pages
These are used to promote businesses, organizations, celebrities and brands. Pages can only be created and managed by official representatives, in other words a vertical hierarchy. They allow businesses to communicate with their customers.
- One or several official representatives/managers;
- Pages are public; whatever is posted is visible to everyone;
- As a manager, you post under the business’s name;
- Anyone can like a Page and choose to receive its posts in their news feed;
- You can add apps to a page, for example a sign-up form for a mailing list or even automatically post your Facebook articles to Twitter;
- Pages offer statistics (followers, audience, etc.);
- You can buy ads to promote your Page.
